Joanne Hobbs

Joanne Lauck Hobbs is the co-founder of Heart of Chaos (HOC) and the founder of Catalyst for Youth, a 501 c 3 non profit public benefit and educational corporation that funds HOC.

In 2002, inspired by the blossoming of artist Curtis Manzano, a formerly at risk teen who received art supplies and exhibit opportunities via Joanne, she decided to form a non profit corporation to benefit more youth and provide “non traditional” support. HOC was its first program, created by Joanne and Curtis to specifically benefit under-represented and under-recognized artists in all mediums.

Joanne has mentored teens and young adults for over fifteen years and never tires of their enthusiasm and passion for life. “They feed the fires of my creative life.”

She is a published author, photographer, graphic designer, wildlife rehabilitator, environmental lecturer and teacher. Her current playground outside of HOC is with 6th, 7th and 8th grade students at Burnett Academy and with students enrolled at the Art Institute in Sunnyvale.

She also runs an art and horticulture therapy program in the Santa Clara juvenile detention center and a ceramic art program in a second facility. And she is always looking for volunteers to work in those programs.

“My career objective is to create a joyful life experience and to the extent to which I get out of my own way, I realize that goal everyday. Life is good.”
