Q&A with the Artist
Q: How would you characterize your work?
A: A manic excursion into dream-ridden frenzy wielding acid-scratched hi-liters, switchblade pastels and Crayola Kid’s Choice crayons, most of this work consists of fleeting sub-psychotic freakouts that come on like a hurricane of razorblades, drenched in unworldly color and exploding with a dense, unnatural intensity.

Q: What is your favorite medium and why? What is your range of mediums?
A: I like to use pens and hi-liters, and especially colored pencils. I also have a
128-piece box of crayons, calligraph pens, charcoal, pastels, six cans of spraypaint, gold leaf and silver markers, and a pack of greeting-card glitter-glue, among other things.

Q: Where have you studied art? Where have you exhibited work?
A: My art career is a complete mystery to me. I am primarily a psychedelic folk songwriter and a Tom Robbins-esque writer of fiction. I have never studied art anywhere, at any time. I never did art in my life until I was almost 22.

I suppose I would say my artistic muse was sparked when I saw the legendary New York street artist Jean-Michel Basquiat in the film "Downtown 81" about a year and a half ago. Since then, I've completed 25 or so major pieces, four of which I have sold. Since arriving in California I have exhibited with Phantom Galleries and Works in San Jose and Mission 17 in San Francisco.

Q: What is your favorite work? And what is your favorite response from others to your work?
A: I sold my best work several months ago, but the favorite work I have done that appears in my show is my latest piece, "Locust Facelift Abortion," a searing, grotesque work dashed off in a couple of marathon sessions in between work on my novel. It reflects the perfected form of the unique style I have been developing over the past year or so.

My treasured responses to my work goes as follows: "I have no idea what that is…but I LIKE it!"

Q: Where are you going now? What direction is calling you?
A: I have taken a position as a teacher of English in South Korea, to which I will soon be departing. I won't be doing art for a long while; I plan to finish my first novel while in the Far East,  then spend a few years bouncing around the world writing and recording new songs.

Q: How has Heart of Chaos been a benefited you?
A: Heart of Chaos is a beacon of purity, grace and passion in a city dominated by imposters! The inexorable monolith of the California artistic community!
